केशकलाप: (A Mass of Hair)

पाश: पक्षश्च हस्तश्च कलापार्थाः कचात्परे (अमरकोशे) ।
पाशः पक्षः हस्तः एते शब्दाः कचपर्यायात् परे वर्तमाना बाहुल्यार्था भवन्ति।
The words पाश, पक्ष and हस्त when coming after a word signifying ‘hair’, mean ‘a mass of’.

Examples:

केशहस्त:
किं भीमसेनो जमदग्निपुत्रः कुन्तीसुतो वा दशकन्धरो वा ।
एषोऽहं गृहीत्वा केशहस्ते दुःशासनस्यानुकृतिं करोमि ।। (मृच्छकटिके १।२९)

ंMeaning: Can Bhimasena, the son of Jamdagni or can the ten necked Ravana or the son of Kunti (save you)? Here by seizing you by a mass of your hair, I am going to do as Duhsasana did (to Draupadi).

केशपाशः
आलोकमार्गं सहसा व्रजन्त्या कयाचिदुद्वेष्टनवान्तमाल्यः ।
बद्धुं न संभावित एव तावत्करेण रुद्धोऽपि हि केशपाशः ।। (रघुवंशे ७।६)

Meaning: One lady rushing to the window did not at all think of again tying up her mass of hair, the wreath of flowers from which had dropped down on account of its knot having got loosened though she held it with her hand, until she reached the window.
