धम्मपदः – २ (Dhaammapada – 2)
भगवतः बुद्धस्य एकस्य उपदेशस्य संग्रहः धम्मपदः इति अभिधीयते। तस्मिन् त्रिविंशति-अधिक-चतुर्शतं श्लोकाः सन्ति। बुद्धानुयायिनः ते श्लोकाः गाथाः इति कथ्यते। बहवः श्लोकाः युगले (in pairs) सन्ति। यथाअक्रोशीत् माम् अवदीत् माम् अजैषीत् माम् अहार्षीत् मे।
ये च तत् उपनह्यन्ति तेषां वैरं न शाम्यति॥३॥
He spoke harshly to me, he hurt me, he defeated me, he stole from me–
who keep this in their minds, their enmity never dies.॥१॥
अक्रोशीत् माम् अवदीत् माम् अजैषीत् माम् अहार्षीत् मे।
ये च तत् नोपनह्यन्ति तेषां वैरं न शाम्यति॥३॥
He spoke harshly to me, he hurt me, he defeated me, he stole from me–
who do not keep this in their minds, their enmity gets pacified.॥१॥
